Suspected cancer - in need of positive stories

Hey,

a month an a half ago I found a lump inside my tongue, it’s pea sized and moveable, at the time I had an ulcer which was so painful i ended up going the doctors to make sure it wasn’t infected. The ulcer has since gone. I was referred for suspected cancer and upon examination they found a lump on my throat wall. I’ve had my MRI today and although I feel relieved that I’ll get answers, I’m terrified of what it could be. I keep telling myself that it couldn’t possibly be cancer but the doctors seem to have no clue what it is and I can’t find anything online (I know it isn’t great to look but we all do it). I have a hoarse throat and a cough but no other symptoms - my doctor originally gave me antibiotics in case it was an infection so I don’t think it could be what’s causing the lumps.

Had anyone else experienced something like this?

many thanks to anyone who takes the time to read!!

  • Oral (and therefore HNT) yes, but different areas than you. Nearly 7 years ago I had laser excision for a tongue cancer. I did not have the recommended neck lymph stripping for pressing domestic reasons. All has gone well until a few weeks ago  -  discomfort in much same area as before, plus a few other niggles.

Seen last week on 2WW Referral, biopsy at same appt.......just waiting!

I'm taking view that I bought 7 years for very little effort or pain.

I can only offer sympathy and hope that you get prompt treatment that does the business. Try to know as much as the medics do  -- all the research indicates that "expert patients" have better outcomes.

    Stay calm, Dave.
