Colposcopy - waiting on results

Hi All,

Im 25 in April I had my first smear test in Nov 24 and it came back positive abnormal cells. I had my colposcopy appointment last Tuesday... worst experience of my life!! I can say I am traumatised and its mentally got to me ive cried probably everyday since. I felt so exposed and vulnerable the whole time I was in the room. The 3 nurses were so lovely and friendly but the whole 30 minutes was horrendous I couldn’t wait for it to be over and done with.

They ended up taking two biopsies, one being of my cervix and the other being my vagina as they said they can also see changes there which has made me feel really anxious as I was only meant to be going for a cervical biopsy. I have been told results are 8-10 weeks wait which I feel like seems ages. I am really hoping the results come back and I don’t have to have any other procedures..

My mum passed away from Stage 4 Cervical cancer in 2016 so this has put the fear of god up me if im honest. I have been getting awful stomach pains/cramps since I had the procedure last week.. how long will this last? I'm not bleeding anymore just pains and feeling sick. Has anyone also had the same experience with a colposcopy?

Thanks for reading :)

  • I'm sorry to hear about your colposcopy experience and how it made you feel Megf123.

Do make sure you speak to someone about this, so you don't feel so alone with what you went through. Also, providing feedback about your experience, if you feel comfortable doing so, may help to improve how things are carried out in the future, and hopefully make you feel more at ease if you ever needed to have this done again.

Waiting for results is never easy, especially when you know it may be some time until they come through, but our members are here for you Megf123 and hopefully some of them will stop by soon to offer their support and advice.

I do hope your stomach pains/cramps start to get better soon but if you're worried, don't hesitate to seek out advice from the colposcopy unit or your GP. You can also discuss this with one of our cancer nurses on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very insightful and will do all they can to help.

We're sending you all our support Megf123 and will have our fingers crossed for good news when the time comes.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
