Thickening of the womb & CA125 test

Hi everyone im 55 postmenospause, I was recently changed to HRT patches, I had a bleed in the December none since. I told the dr, she done a physical exam & checked my womb etc. my smears have always came back clear. She was happy enough but only I had a bleed she sent me for a ultrasound which came back with thicking.. all I was told it's thick come in for bloods. I went to the drs yesterday for the ca125 and looked it up and totally scared myself and so worried if they come back high. I'm waiting to see gynaecologist. Has this happened to anyone else??

  • Hello Chan145

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently had some health concerns and that you're now waiting to see a gynaecology specialist. it's understandable that you're feeling anxious.

We know that many people turn to the internet when looking for answers. What we also know is that most people are left feeling more anxious and still with no answers. Try to avoid looking for information online if you can.

A CA125 test can be used as part of the testing process for ovarian cancer but it's also very important to remember that a raised CA125 can be caused by other conditions. A raised CA125 result doesn't automatically mean a cancer diagnosis so if your blood test comes back outside of the normal range then try not to worry.

I wonder if you might find it helpful to talk things through with one of our team of nurses. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm on 0808 800 4040.

I hope that you don't have to wait too long for your appointment. Let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
