Cin3/suspicious cervical picture and pregnant.

I had a smear test in December (after 9 years of not having one, for personal reasons) the results showed I had CIN 3, I was then invited to a colonoscopy in late January and found out I was pregnant the same week, because of this I opted to not have Lletz treatment for the moment. They gave me an examination and took some punch biopsies, to determine whether I had cancer or not, the doctor said at the time she was mildly suspicious but nothing to really worry about. Today I had a phone call from another doctor from the same hospital, my biopsy results came back as CIN 3 but she said she was suspicious from my cervical picture that I do have cancer. They are going to book me an appointment to discuss my options for in around 2 weeks time (by which time I will be around 8 weeks pregnant) and also offered me an MRI. I’m just abit confused because of the two conflicting opinions, I’m not sure whether I need to have treatment or not, or whether it could wait until after I’ve had the baby. It’s kind of left me in a black hole,  if it’s CIN 3 it could be managed and treated after but if it is cancer it’s needs treating now. The trouble is until I have had the Lletz and mri I don’t think they don’t know what they are dealing with, I don’t want to risk the pregnancy unless I really have to. Has anybody else been through this? What was the outcome?

  • Hi Fletcher2025,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with this uncertainty - I'm sure this must be difficult.

It sounds like they don't have all the information at this point, and so any further tests will help in terms of understanding what to potentially expect.

Ahead of your next appointment, try to make a note of any questions you have so that you can talk everything through.

You may also find it helpful to speak to one of our nurses. If you'd like to do this, you can reach them on freephone 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

Otherwise, if others here have similar experience to share then hopefully they'll see your post and send replies.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
