I’m so scared!

I found a lump on the inner side of my breast which was tender. Slightly moveable and small. I’m awaiting a drs appointment on Monday but I’m getting all this pain and discomfort with it. I’ve got down rabbit holes on google and everything contradicts its self. I’m so scared. I have no swelling or physical changes to my breast itself. It’s just the aches I’m worrying about but I have been extremely stressed. I just don’t know what to do with myself!

  • hi..its agonising waiting for the drs appoitment,i know..your mind thinks all sorts. But try to stay calm and maybe talk to a family member or friend about how your feeling. It helped me.All the best.

  • Thankyou, I’ve been going on at my family so much I’ve annoyed them. I just want it out the way now

  • Hi Noona,

A very warm welcome to the forum.

I am sorry to hear about your pain and the distress that this is causing. You have done what most of us do and turned straight to consult "Dr Google". This is something which we always advise against at this stage. Much of the information is poorly researched, out of date and aimed at the more spectacular cases. This does not give you any useful information and only serves to confuse and scare us. It is good to hear that your lump is small and moveable. Most breast cancers are not painful and the sooner you catch them, the better the outcome tends to be. I hope that your GP can put your mind to rest tomorrow. If you need to be referred to the breast clinic, there is usually up to a 2 week wait from the date of referral to get an appointment.

Just to put things into proportion for you, not all lumps are cancerous. It is a fact that only 20% of those who attend the breast clinic, will get a cancer diagnosis. The other 80% will have benign cysts, fibroadenoma or naturally lumpy breasts. This is always a worrying time and, irrespective of the outcome, you will feel better once you know the outcome. Even if it does turn out to be cancer, it will be treatable. I have had 2 bouts. That was 15 years ago and I still lead a busy and fulfilling life.

     Here's hoping for good news.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Teresab,

A very warm welcome to the forum.

I hope that your appointment with ENT comes through soon and that nothing untoward is found. Many neck lumps are due to local infections and settle with time - I hope that this is so, in your case.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

  • Thankyou ever so much for your response. How comforting. The pain has some what eased thank goodness but still tender here n there however still nervous. I really hope she can put my mind to rest to. I’m so happy that you’re able to enjoy your life as you deserve x

  • Hi Noona,

It's good to hear that the pain has lessened. This can often happen at about the same time as your period is due. You will naturally be worried, until you know for certain. I hope that all goes well.

  • I really hope that is the case. Just want this lump checked! My sister in law felt it earlier and she said it’s small smooth and round and moved a little so fingers crossed Thankyou for commenting x
