I think i have kidney cancer

I think I have kidney cancer...

In October 2023 I was rushed to hospital as I had a bleed on my kidney and it was infected...after tests and tests and tests it showed my left kidney is only working at 4% and there is a blockage there. In May 2024 they put a kidney stent in me to try and improve the kidney function and to see the results in 12 weeks....the kidney function hasnt improved and i still have the stent in. They don't know what the blockage is and have told me the best thing to do as my kidney function isnt improving is to have the kidney removed. Just recently I have become tired literally every day. All I want to do is sleep, I have lost weight and my appetite hasn't been great. I keep getting urine infections and they keep finding blood in my urine and it's nothing to do with periods as I don't have them and I am not pregnant either. I take my course of antibiotics and nothing changes.

I feel like I'm getting no answers and of course I have to try and do my research....eveytime I put my symptoms in different websites I get the same answer. I know you shouldn't try and diagnose yourself but I have no option when no one is telling me anything.

Thankyou for reading. From H.

  • Hello Cross33

I'm sorry to hear that you've been having ongoing problems with your kidney health over the past few months. It sounds like it's been a difficult and frustrating time and I can understand why you've been searching for answers.

Now that the team have recommended surgery have they given you an indicator of when you may be admitted? Hopefully, it won't be too long before they can get you into hospital and get you on the road to recovery.

In the meantime, you might want to consider contacting the hospital PALS team. It's part of their role to help resolve concerns or problems when you're using the NHS and it may be that they can help get some clarification for you around some of the concerns that you have.

Alternatively, if you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses for some advice and support you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

I hope the surgery goes smoothly Cross33 and you're feeling well again soon.

    Best wishes,
