Extremely worried my symptoms could be cancer

Roughly 12 months ago I started having pain in the back of my trapezius muscle and upper right pectoral muscle radiating into my armpit area I thought nothing of it and put it down to a muscle strain at work but this has got much worse and more frequent over the last 3 months I am now having bad pain all around my liver area, spleen area ,right kidney area and upper abdomen area this has been accompanied by very bad bouts of fatigue which I have to stop working and sit down as I feel faint and totally deprived of energy like lifting my arms is hard work this goes away eventually but not fully since September last year I have lost weight I was 13st 10lbs now I am 12st 5lb and still losing weight no changes in eating habits or lifestyle in any way the only health condition I have is athsma which has got worse in this time causing me to struggle with my breathing alot more than I ever have I did visit my doctor and told them all these symptoms I'm having i was sent for an ultrasound on my abdomen and they said they couldn't see anything that looked out of the ordinary but they couldn't see my aorta or pancreas clearly due to bowel gas I then went back to see my doctor to discuss further action possibly a CT scan on my whole upper body or a referral to see an oncologist but I was told a the CT scan was not necessary and rather than send me to see an oncologist he referred me to see a GI specialist which is not what I wanted or think I need I've been waiting since late September for an appointment and no joy but I can't continue like this with these symptoms as it's now affecting my life my work life and performance at work and most of all my mental health as I'm very worried this could be cancer but I have no way of knowing. apologies for the very long post

  • You usually get sent to an oncologist after the diagnosis part (this may differ for blood cancers). A lot of people we know only got to see one for the first time once treatment options were to be discussed. One deals with the drug side of things, a medical oncologist. One that deals with radiation and the likes and a surgical one.

When my wife had cancer, she was initially seen by the breast specialist. If the GI doc found anything concerning, then you'd get to see an oncologist.

  • Thank you very much for explaining this as I thought my doctor was fobbing me off I wasn't sure how things work I will wait to see what the GI specialist has to say and go from there and I hope your wife is doing well and cancer free and I hope you have a great weekend
