Biopsy and Face to face follow up

Hi, I’m looking for help/reassurance, anything really .

i found a lump last week in my right breast and have been for a mammogram/ ultrasound today. The doctor then said it needed a biopsy ( the scan showed a black area which he put measurements on) I’ve had a marker inserted as well. Talking to the nurse she explained that they did this everyday and the doctor obviously thought there was something not right they also said I needed a face to face appointment to discuss the results, she also pointed out that the black thing on the scan was very small and if it is cancer they will remove it, which has now convinced me it is cancer, the doctor also scanned my under arm but didn’t biopsy there. Can anyone offer me any information, help, personal experiences. I’m at my whits end, I know it cannot be changed by having more info but if I keep googling I’ll drive myself crazy.

thanks

  • Hi Jobieejo,

You are spot on when you write that if you keep Googling you will drive yourself crazy - this is something many of our members have experienced themselves so I would suggest you stay well away from the unreliable and unpredictable Dr Google and you have done the right thing to come here and reach out to others who may be in a similar situation.

This is a stressful time for you at the moment, a time of uncertainty as you are waiting to have this biopsy and face to face follow up to discuss the results. I hope that the wait to have the biopsy won't be too long and it sounds like the nurse was reassuring and pointed out that the area of concern was very small. The fact that she said 'if it is cancer' doesn't necessarily mean though that it is cancer but they are being thorough which is good and the biopsy will determine for certain what it is but try not anticipate what it might be if you can as there are so many other things it could be other than cancer. Unfortunately all you can do for now is wait - and this is actually the hardest thing - and I thought I would share with you our useful tips to help you cope while waiting for important news.

I hope that you find out more soon and that you won't have to wait too long to find out more. I will now let our members who have been through something similar come and say hello and share their personal experiences with you.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi, thank you so much for responding, I’d love to hear from others, I just figured that the doctor had seen blood in the biopsy fluid and that’s why he said I needed a face to face, I’m trying to stay positive but having health anxiety and going through a chemical menopause due to endometriosis I’m really struggling.
I’ve looked at my doctors notes on line and my initial doctors appointment before referral says that it’s hard 1cm hard lump which doctor google says is very small, which has helped a bit. I just really wish I had not been talked out of my hysterectomy then I can just have both boobs off and be done with the hideous disease

thanks again ( sore for the venting)
