Endometrial biopsy

Hi, im new here.

I had a “cyst” accidently found on an MRI for another procedure last year. After being referred to a gynaecologist, they did another MRI with contrast and advised it was just a polyp. The consultant advised me to wait 3 months and they would scan me and if it had got bigger would look to remove. This was done privately and they referred me back to my gp for a follow up. I went for an internal scan 3 months later on the NHS and they advised that there was some changes possible increase in polyp size and suspected incidental cancer. I was petrified and my doctor called me 2 days later and put me on the 2 week cancer pathway. I had no idea what it was or why I was being referred as they never told me anything so all very scary. I spoke with the gynaecologist and she kind of dismissed me saying it’s not cancer as I’m too young (I’m 36). She advised I would need a biopsy and a hysteroscopy to remove polyp. Have recently had that procedure done under GA (2nd Jan) all was ok however, I have not heard from anyone. I tried to call drs they said speak to hospital and they have no idea and just told me to wait. My anxiety is through the roof as I just want to know as it’s been over 2.5 weeks now. I have no number to call a consultant as I don’t even know who it is. I never spoke to anyone after the procedure so don’t know if it went well or not. I just feel so anxious and irritated waiting for the results. How long did other people wait?

  • Hi Lennie1234 and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

I'm glad to hear your procedure went ok although I'm sorry about the anxious wait you now have for your results.

Waiting for results is one of the hardest parts of this process but I hope it helps to know that a lot of our members have been in your position, so you are not alone, and I'm sure it won't be long until some of them stop by to offer their support and advice.

I hope this information we have on how to cope with waiting for news will help to steady your nerves but if you'd like to discuss any of this further with one of our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

We're thinking of you Lennie and will have our fingers crossed your results come through soon.

    Kind regards,
