Post menopausal bleeding referral

I'm 53 and have had no periods for 22 months now.

I've just had some bleeding so went to the Dr's. He was straight to the point and said I was being referred as it could possibly be cancer.

I feel a bit overwhelmed. I'm waiting for an appointment which will be within 2 weeks.

Worse thing I've done is Google!!!

Just needed to get it out of my system before bed so I can try and sleep without worrying.

Thank you for this safe place x

  • Hi Mand53,

You did the right thing in going to the doctor's when you noticed unusual bleeding. It's good that the doctor was thorough and took thing seriously and referred you but try if you can not to anticipate what it might be and if the doctor mentioned it could be cancer, what it means is they want to rule out cancer but there are also many other things that could explain this post menopausal bleeding. It's good though that they have fast tracked you for an urgent referral so that you can be seen quicker and have some definite answers sooner.

You are spot on when you say that worst thing one can do is Google and yet it is really hard to resist the urge to look things up on Google but the truth is it will only make you worry even more without providing reliable answers. I hope that all this waiting and worrying is not interfering too much with your sleep and I thought I would share with you our helpful tips to help you cope while waiting for important news.

This is indeed a safe space for you to come and offload when you feel you need to and I hope that you will hear from others here who have been in a similar situation before and also had an urgent referral for post menopausal bleeding.

I hope you will get some definite answers soon and that it all turns out to be nothing of concern.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Mand53 I'm going through something similar. Went for transvaginal scan yesterday. Got a phonecard booked with my doctor for tomorrow for results.  Very scared. How are you doing?

  • Hi, how did you get on with results?

  • I am 2 years no bleeding in menopause.. over new year bled for a couple weeks not heavy, doctor checked urine once it had finished and said leave it at that if it comes back will send u for further testing.. i have been for a ct scan also for a bad back so doctor said since no abnormalities in scan everything was fine.. i got in-touch wi my local hospital and they are seeing me tomorrow for a biopsy Had one done 5 years ago as lining was 19mm thick. Merina coil was inserted and thing la all settled down till now.. also on scan i have a previous coil fitted over 20 years and they couldn't find it not long after they sacnnwd me and said it must have fallen out.well after 20 years its still floating about as ct scan pocked it up.. but gynaecologist said its not to do with bleeding .

  • Hi, sorry for the late reply. My scan is tomorrow. I've been anxious, but I'm doing OK thanks. How did yours go? Hope your results were OK x

  • Oh gosh,

It's quite scary, but very common by the looks of it.

    Hope you are doing OK.

  • Hi

    Thanks so much for replying.

I was told I have a thickened womb lining, fibroids and a an ovarian cyst which is thought to be an endometrioma. Now had blood test and got a clinic appointment on Friday.  31st Jan.

  • I hope you are doing OK. Xx
