Just discovered I am on the urgent colorectal pathway - shocked!

I had a routine blood test and have anemia.  I have had this on and off for 5+ years.

Discussed with GP and fit test completed December.  I was then referred to consult,  had a letter from the GP to say this.  I received a very quick appointment.  Although it was only on arrival that I really understood the clinic I was at.

CT scan next. I really don't want a colonoscopy,  I have had before and really struggled with this.  I hope I have made the right decision.

  • Hello Jool-BD

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some ongoing health concerns and that following a recent visit with your GP, you've been seen by the colorectal specialist and are now waiting for a CT scan. It's understandable that you have some concerns.

We know that for many people this period of waiting and uncertainty can be really difficult and it's natural to feel anxious. If it would help to talk things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I know they will be happy to offer any support and information they can.

Hopefully you won't have to wait too long for the CT scan and the results will give the specialists the information they need to offer some answers and reassurance.

Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn

  • Thank you for responding.

I have looked to see the percentage of people with a positive fit test that have cancer, but I have found confusing results for 10% to 40% .  Can you clarify this please?
