I am at least two years post menopause and began HRT at the end of May 2024 ( two pumps of estrogel and one progesterone capsule daily for 25 days then a break of the progesterone for three days then repeat) I have bled a few times since then lasting from 5 days to just a day or two.
At the beginning of November I began heavy bleeding and pain , after two weeks of this ( it was heavy bleeding - red blood and uterus pain) I went to the GP - she internally examined me and scheduled blood tests for the next morning and was concerned and contacted a hospital gynaecology dep, they asked her to send me to the A&E dep to see a gynaecologist the next day ( 22/11)
i saw a Dr there who confirmed that investigations are to rule out uterine cancer, that I needed a biopsy there and then and a sonogram would be booked for me asap.
After laging on the bed he said he was performing the biopsy - used a speculum, it was over in a minute. He took out the speculum - then he said ‘this will feel a lot different’ he placed his thumb or finger firmly on my clitorus and pushed and circled twice then removed it quickly and placed his fingers inside my vagina to feel the inside of there with another hand feeling the outside of my abdomen / uterus area
I have had internals before, this felt wrong - the pushing ans circle movement but.
i was taken aback but didn’t say anything, he had a chaperone with him, behind him, and my husband was on the other side of the curtain, I was terrified and in shock with the talk of cancer and I don’t think that was right - but there was already talk of how long the biopsy results would take and I didn’t want to cause any problems to delay it anymore.
he then stood to the side of my head with the chaperone and was handling the sample stick and she held the plastic bottle with liquid - and he said, I don’t think I took enough of a sample but when questioned he said it was fine. The sample was on the top of a thin plastic stick identical but longer than the type of swab used to take nasal covid swab test sample.
i was terrified at this point and with talk of three weeks ( but they said it usually takes 2 weeks but they say 3) I asked if there was another way we could progress it. They said no, but I do not know if that upset them. He also told me to stop the HRT immediately.
the sonogram was supposed to be a couple of days, with repeated calls to the hospital we found out it would be in a weeks time.
the sonogram revealed ( I asked the radiographer ) that my uterus was 10mm thickened
the gynaecology department at the hospital could not be contacted directly so it was difficult to get through - four days later the receptionist said that the drs were busy and have not looked at the results yet - the day after the same and the day after a gynaecologist confirmed that they had seen the results and would be referring through urgent pathway - she did not say what for or what would be next - she confirmed the uterus wall was enlarged and that although the results of the biopsy are not back as yet that there was a note from the dr who performed the biopsy stating that he believes he may not have taken enough of a sample
there was no more contact with that particular hospital
i asked my gp to refer me to a closer and better hospital - the stress caused by this particular hospital - the expected wrong touches / the confusion of the biopsy dr in the process / the unable to contact and I had previous bad experience of this hospital too
on the 12th December a GP informed me that the other hospital that I wanted to continue with due to all the issues and stress would not take me because the other hospital had begun investigations - I actually walked out in tears at the thought of this
on the 13th I received a call from a hospital in another city health board asking me if I would be attending the appointment later that day ….this was the first I was hearing of this - it was about 27 miles away - it was to be for a hysteroscopy and biopsy- I asked if they had the results from the first - they stated that the results came back ‘ no endometrial cells present in the sample’
so the first hospital messed up my first biopsy and this was now three weeks later
I was supposed to see a consultant at this new appointment and hospital but saw a Dr - who was lovely and calm and patient - the nurses were wonderful and this was the first time I was treated like a human
the Dr said that there was no polyps or fibroids etc and then took the biopsy
ahe advised to begin taking HRT again but do not have a break from the Progesterone capsules - just take continually
so now it’s been 26 days or so and I have not received results from my second biopsy and I am still bleading
no communication from any, I am a shell of myself
my first referral was the 22/11, taken off HRT suddenly, first biopsy performed wrongly by the fellow attending came back void, second biopsy waiting more than three weeks again for results.
i am in wales - it is supposed to be that you begin treatment within 60 Or 62 days of suspected cancer - it’s now been 47 days or so and I haven’t even been diagnosed or cancer ruled out but in the meantime I am Stressed and feeling on my own and let down and worried
I do not know what to do, it is affecting everything
no one is helpful and not one of them are taking control or is the contact point -
anyone else going through this experience in a similar way? Any tips or help? My hormones are allover the place as well as tha mental worry and physical symptoms
i cannot imagine I am the first this is happening to
Thankyou for reading my long post - I just needed to get it out
