Oncology referred for a scan, MRI done on 1st Jan. How long will the results take?

posting on behalf of my mum

so 2 weeks before Christmas her ct results were referred to oncology who then urgently requested an mri which was done on the 1st of January, how long should we expect to wait for results? they found a mass on her pancreas tail and were just sitting ducks waiting to hear something but were not sure who's going to reach out, will it be the gp? or will it be someone from oncology? the specialist she was referred to at the start would be pointless now as theyve found something in a different area than where they expected it to be, any help is appreciated x

  • Hello stargirl2345,

As you can see in our information on the MRI scan, results normally take 1-2 weeks to come through so if you haven't heard anything after a couple of weeks, contact the doctor who arranged the test to find out whether there have been delays for example. I am not sure who exactly will reach out but you could perhaps check with your GP who will be able to tell you more. Our nurses will also be happy to guide you further so don't hesitate to get in touch with them on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I am keeping everything crossed for you that you get some news soon about the MRI results and that you find out more soon about what to expect.

    Best wishes,
