Can anyone please give me some advice how to take this bad news? My heart and blood pressure have gone sky high. Anyone?

Have you been given bad news?

Even if they have found blood in your stool, that's not necessarily bad news. Lots of things can cause that - hemorrhoids, a fissure, a polyp, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's... I think only about 10% of cases are due to cancer.

And if they haven't, then the odds of cancer are less again.

Hi I must admit when you first get news like that it is scarey but as someone has already said it does not mean you have cancer it just means for some reason there is blood in your test sample ,it could be from anywhere as mentioned ,I've had 2 positive tests and both times after a Colonoscopy it has come back as nothing sinister ,they told me I had Diverticulitis and internal piles ,its much more likely to be something far less sinister than cancer ,you will probably be sent for a Colonoscopy now which will tell the Doctor what is going on ,you did the right thing setting the ball rolling so they can find out what your problem is .

Are you eating regular meals as you have always done ,when I was going through this the only person I told was my hubby as he was the one who would be driving me to hospital for the Colonoscopy ,I didn't see the point in telling anyone else until I knew for sure there was a problem ,but your mam will be a good support for you I'm sure .

No, I'm eating the normal amount of food, I'd say even more than usual. 

Does your GP know this ,has he arranged any more tests or treatments for you yet ???

Emergency colonoscopy in two weeks. 

That's good ,you need answers and you'll get answers from that ,try not to google all of your questions ,I know most people do but really speaking its outdated and will not help you ,far better asking people on here who have experienced what you are going through .

From a emergency colonoscopy to now on the 24th January, telephone triage??? I've told them I have pain, losing weight, and they want to give ma a telephone triage? Seriously!

So does it sound like you are not now having the Colonoscopy and instead having just a telephone call to find out how urgent you need to be seen ,they obviously don't think its urgent .

I don't know what to think Jenny? This is ridiculous! They are the ones who called me to alert me that I have blood in my stool. I told the doctor I'm in pain, losing weight. When I eat I feel slight pain in the right side of my stomach near the middle of my stomach. Plus I get a burning sensation just under where my right ribs are. I can't believe I have to have a telephone consultation. Why can't they call me in. I'm scared I'm going to get sicker now!

I had a telephone call before my first Colonoscopy and that's when they gave me a date for the Colonoscopy so that's probably what they will do with you ,but it does seem like a long time to wait before you even get an appointment ,if you're in pain maybe ask your GP if they can help get you a sooner appointment .

How soon after your telephone consultation did you get your colonoscopy can I ask?

I believe it was only a few days certainly less than a week .

Can a nurse answer this question please? They are giving me a telephone consultation on the 23rd of January to see if I need a colonoscopy! After the doctor said that I need a emergency colonoscopy! Can someone answer this ? If they saw blood why would I have to go through a telephone consultation?

Hi if you would like a reply from the nurses there is a section where you can ask the nurses and they will then  see it .

Hi if you are losing weight rapidly which I've just read on your other post and you have to go right to 23rd Jan I would get in touch with your GP and see what they say ,you can't really afford to be losing too much weight ,are you eating at all ,is it the worry that's causing the weight loss ,either way your GP is there for you ,I would let them know what's happening .Jenny 

Hello Jenny. I don't know if it's worry or the thing where cancer ups your metabolism and eats away at your body. I'm eating more. My heart rate used to hover at the 60bpm. Now it's always at the 90bpm rate. Is that stress? I'm hungry all the time! I'm going to call my GP practice. 

Hi I think you should ,I was just thinking if you tell them you are having rapid weight loss even though you are eating more and that its causing you anxiety and worry they might be able to try and get you seen sooner ,its worth a try ,that's what I would do ,if they think you are ok to wait and things get worse after hours ring 111 and they will access you .
