Being informed about anything untoward. Do I need to get in touch or will I be contacted?

Hello, I was diagnosed with anemia six months ago, recently i had a endoscopy and there is a lesion on my upper GI tract.  I am waiting for the biopsy results. My question is , if anything untoward was found, does my doctor inform me or do I get contacted by the hospital, thank you .

  • Welcome to the forum angelblu, although I'm sorry to hear about the lesion that was found during endoscopy.

Waiting for the biopsy results must be very stressful but the Cancer Chat community are here for you and hopefully some of our members will be along soon to share their experiences and advice.

One of our cancer nurses may be able to help you with your query so if you'd like to discuss this further, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They will do all they can to give you the answers you are seek, and support you whilst you wait.

I hope you won't have to wait too much longer angelblu, and that you receive good news when the time comes.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Angelblu,

A very warm welcome to the forum.

It may vary from one hospital to another. In most instances following a biopsy, you should be contacted by the hospital, to give you your biopsy results. This usually takes from 1-3 weeks. Most doctors prefer to give results, both good and bad in person. Where some hospitals are particularly busy, this sometimes has to be done by letter or phone. This means that there is no straightforward answer to your question.

It is always a good idea to ask what the procedure is at the time of your biopsy.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you. I'm keeping everything crossed for you, that it'll be good news.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
