CA125 of 59

Hi there,

Just after some advice, my mum who is 61 had breastcancer 10 years ago has become poorly. She thought she had long covid combined with osteoporosis, as for a few months she has been nauseous and having pelvic pain and tiredness. She had bloods done and it said her CA125 is 59. She's got a scan next week which feels to us all like forever away.

I know you shouldn't google things, but ovarian cancer, lymphoma and peritonitis keep coming up.  Is there anything else from her age that it could be? The standard things occurring don't seem common in her age group.  Her aunt did have ovarian cancer, but my mum is a very healthy woman and my aunt grew up in poor times in a poor place.

Thank you so much

  • Soooo many reasons for ca125 being raised. Cysts, fibroids, bleeding, pelvic inflammatory disease.
I am under the care of a gynaecologist and was told the test has so many reasons to be in the hundreds and even when ver low it can be incorrect, she said it was not a reliable test for a sign of anything that’s why it’s not openly offered as a test to check for ovarian cancers.
your scan will tell your mum much more, but please don’t worry. There are so many reasons and it’s so good get scan in a week! Sending hopeful and well wishes to your mum.

  • Hi, how did your mums scan go? Xx

  • Hi there,

They found inflammation and a simple cyst. However, apparently simple cysts are benign but they monitor them over several months to keep an eye on them. Apparently being on tamoxifen a breast cancer drug can cause inflammation in the region she has it. Miraculously, her routine bloods GP have put her on to showed her ca125 had gone down to 39.  We aren't sure why. Maybe as it's more of a gap since being on tamoxifen. She's recently got in to gut health stuff too.Drinking warm water with a tablespoon of acv everyday, and lots of sauerkraut and goat kefir  to improve microbiome after damage of heavy drug for 10years.   Not sure if this helped.

I had no idea how important gut health is even if you think you have no gut issues. Apparently we should all be having something fermented everyday. I sometimes have a whole jar of sauerkraut! Ive gotten in to tempeh too. Be careful though as too much sauerkraut gives you headaches which a whole jar did to me!  She has a hysterscopy at the end of the month just to rule anything more sinister out.

  • Just saw this and this makes so much more sense now thank you!
