Test results query

Hi everyone.

I've just been given appointments within a few days of seeing my gastro Dr after results from poop tests. My q(fit) test came back 13 and seemingly it should be 10 or under.

I have to get a camera into my tummy in a few days and hen a CT virtual colonospsey with a dye .

Is this something to be concerned about? I would rather know the facts than bury my head.

Can anyone help with the answers if possible?

Thanks in advance ️

  • A q(fit) over 10 just means there is some blood in your stool. It doesn't indicate anything about what might be causing it. Lots of things can from hemorrhoids to a fissure to a polyp to diverticulitis, Crohn's, ulcerative colitis, an infection...

A result of 13 means there is really very little blood in your stool. It's a very borderline score. Some people get results well into the 100s. I think I saw a result of 900 here at one point. 13 could be caused by any little thing.

Generally, about 1 in 10 of the FIT results that are referred to colonoscopy turn out to be cancer, I think, but...while I'm not sure, I THINK cancer is more likely with higher scores, so with a score of 13, your odds of cancer MIGHT be lower than that.

  • Awh thanks for getting back, that is a big relief.  Thank you. I know nothing is 100% but I'm more optimistic now. X

  • As someone has already said 13 is a very low score and its much more likely to be something harmless than something sinister but at least its an opportunity to get checked out in case there is something lurking there ,for me the worst part of having a Colonoscopy was the preparation drink the night before my score was 51 and all was well ,let us know how you get on ..

  • Thank you so much for your positive responses I'm so glad your test turned out all good.

I definitely don't feel as worried now. I will keep you posted x
