Concerned mom : cervical cancer symptoms. Pending tests

Hi,

I'm just looking for advice/ support as I wait for some further testing. A bit of background :

I'm a 36 year old mom of a just turned 2 year old. For a number of years I had very slight spotting after sex. I had ultrasound and smear both came back clear, and all smears since have been clear. Doctor shrugged at the time and just told me one of those things.

It got slightly worse over 5 years however the doctors refused to do more tests.

Eventually after I had my little boy I started going back again and this year pushed for more tests as there was an escalation in the spotting I get both after sex, now around ovulation and a week before my period. Overall there's probably now only 4-5 days a month I'm not bleeding. I now have bright red bleeding for 2-3 days after sex (like a light period), around CD 12-18, and generally 5 days before my period (periods are heavy).

Last smear 2 years ago was clear. I had an ultrasound done (abdominal only as they said they could see everything they needed to do didn't do internal). This showed an enlarged ovary but as no mass/fluid and it was during ovulation they said nothing to worry about, lining etc looked fine no findings. I then had a pelvic exam and found a large polyp and treated my cervix with liquid nitrogen (which has not stopped any of the bleeding issues). The gyno said that other than the polyp and the red patch she treated everything seemed fine.

She has put me on a waiting list for a colposcopy, to have the polyp removed/biopsied, and IUD input under general anaesthetic (due to my cervix position) but since she said she has no concerns she isn't putting it as urgent so it looks like a 6 month wait for it :(

I'm really worrying myself sick that something has been missed and if I wait so long it's only going to get worse. The thought of leaving my little boy without a mom is making me cry every day.

Has anyone had similar things and turned out okay? How worried should I be given the tests I've had so far? Any advice or things I should ask the doctors for? (Doctor isn't very supportive tbh. Just thinks I have to live with it. Gyno is good but incredibly difficult to get appointments with. Last one was a 3 month wait).

  • Hi

Waiting is the worst part in any situation, if they’re not rushing you for tests then relax (I know it’s not easy to do)

I had GP appointment as periods were going weird and I couldn’t tell if I was bleeding after sex as I never seemed to stop spotting at one point or another, a physical GP check and then a whirl wind of colposcopy (including an overnight stay as they couldn’t control the bleeding) and countless scans.I’m back at the hospital tomorrow for treatment plan.

The waiting it’s the worst part but deep breaths - even if there’s treatment needed, you’ve got this
