Itchy mole

Hey, I’m currently away from home but for the last 4 or so days a mole on my foot has become itchy and scabby. I also feel a sort of burning/ hot niggly sensation on the skin around the area. I will be away for another week yet but I’m worried I should be going home and getting an emergency appointment to get this checked out. I’m absolutely terrified, I’m a single parent of young children.

Any people who’ve had skin cancer that can tell me if these were symptoms for you?

thanks

  • My partner's mole changed without sensation and I had to bully him to get to the doctor. Sensation can be part of it though so I'd see the GP as soon as you're home. Maybe arrange the appointment for when you get back or even take a photo and organise a phone appointment if it's making you anxious. I'm not sure the week will make a big difference other than to your peace of mind.

  • I agree with Lyns, ring your GP practice & explain that you are away. Ask if you can send a photo for your GP to look at & decide if you need an appointment on your return. Most practices now ask for a photo so they can triage whether you need to be seen by the GP or sometimes they send the photo through to dermatology for their assessment.

Melanoma doesn't usually cause any skin sensation other than itching. It may be that the skin around & underneath is infected & it may settle down. If you can get any E45 Itch Cream, use that whilst waiting to see your GP. Hopefully it will be fine but please let us know how you get on,
