Colonoscopy

Hi every one I’m due for a colonoscopy on Tuesday I’m feeling really scared don’t really feel.upto the procedure as I really suffer with stress and anxiety but I know I need to do this  I have been feeling as if I need to poo but some times it’s just reddish pus and feeling very gassy but because of feeling I need to poo I’m always in the bathroom , been having problems for a while now. I thought maybe I just had internal piles but when I went to my gp doctor couldn’t see or feel any thing so did a fit test which came back positive  so I was referred for a colonoscopy  I’m so scared of having cancer  not looking forward to the bowel prep  I think your all a lot braver than me   Xx

  • So proud of you James4000   one of the most difficult things for most people to do

  • James4000 hi James so proud of you for over coming your fear of injecting yourself  it most be hard when you have a fear of needles  well done you  it goes to show how strong you are  I have to go to clinic on Tuesday for some more pre op tests then I have to go see the bowel nurse to talk about the operation and mark me for a stomach I was a bit shocked when she said that because I didn’t think that would happen but nurse said in case I need one. I’m beginning to think I will wake up with a stomach I wasn’t expecting to hear that. So I felt a bit down after that  but I guess what ever is needed needs to be done to save your life  lots of love James thinking of you x

  • James4000 sorry about the pre texted it was meant to say stoma not stomach

  • Thank you, all. Yes, I was tough. I feel kind of odd today but not too bad. I find it hard to know quite how I'm feeling often.

Tango, I'm so glad they should be moving forwards for you next week. Hopefully the stoma will be a back up option, depending how the procedure goes. I was told in my case, given the location, if likely need a stoma when the time comes, which I dread, but that in most cases like mine it would be reversible.

Hoping yours goes smoothly and they can resection without any need for it. I recall someone in one of these forums a few weeks back expecting a stoma and waking up to find it hadn't been necessary. As you say, the main thing is curing you and getting you well again. All the best for Thursday.

  • I am new to this forum awaiting appointment for colonoscopy after going to GP bloody stools pain changes to bowel habit fatigue is bad but I have other underlying health issues that can cause chronic fatigue so my anxiety and worry might have made things worse

negative bowel screening that they post out then few weeks later symptoms appeared and got new test in post sent to lab came back positive spoke with colorectal surgeon over telephone now waiting on colonoscopy

my mum passed away from colon cancer as it came back secondary after 4years remission

  • Hi Janjan..hopefully you won't have too long to wait for the colonoscopy , many conditions can cause bloody stools and changes in bowel movements.. I do understand your concern in regards to your Mum ⚘️ stress and anxiety will  impact on your symptoms,  as you know, trying to stay positive and take one step at a time

  • Eastend girl Thank you for your reply it is right as you say can be other things GP mentioned Diverticulitis but possibly due to family best to rule everything out

hopefully colonoscopy can help with diagnosis

  • Absolutely the best idea to hopefully put your mind at rest..

Colonoscopy isn't always a definitive diagnosis,  I had Colonoscopy in Dec 2024, 6 biopsies taken and now waiting for Ultrasound as 'further investigation needed '
