Colonoscopy

Hi every one I’m due for a colonoscopy on Tuesday I’m feeling really scared don’t really feel.upto the procedure as I really suffer with stress and anxiety but I know I need to do this  I have been feeling as if I need to poo but some times it’s just reddish pus and feeling very gassy but because of feeling I need to poo I’m always in the bathroom , been having problems for a while now. I thought maybe I just had internal piles but when I went to my gp doctor couldn’t see or feel any thing so did a fit test which came back positive  so I was referred for a colonoscopy  I’m so scared of having cancer  not looking forward to the bowel prep  I think your all a lot braver than me   Xx

  • I'm told the MDT should be discussing me today as they have my biopsies and 2 scan results.

The cancer nurse offered to call me later today with an update post- meeting.

I know lots of people say this waiting is the hardest part and it gets easier, mentally, once you have a plan. But I'm terrified what they'll tell me. Wish me luck.

  • James4000 hi James I wish you all the luck in the world  I was thinking maybe this is the hardest waiting to hear your results and what can be done for you as I know it will be for me. I’m still waiting for a scan but it’s still in the 2 eeek pathway  please keep us informed  lots of love  x

  • TangoPotter... you may have seen my post to James...

I realise everyone is different ..for me being prepared is vital which is why I felt it was important to share with those awaiting results/news/ updates... watching my cousin waiting for a call,  then being told her case hadn't been heard/reviewed was ...

I'm keeping everything crossed for everyone waiting...bcoz the waiting has such an impact on our mental wellbeing  xx

  • Eastendgirl yes I’ve just seen your post to James. Thank you for the up date  I guess we have to be prepared for any thing  thank you for sharing  xx

  • TangoPotter...I'm staying positive and hoping she was one of the unlucky ones x

  • Thank you both for your kind words and support. This forum has been a blessing.

I heard from the nurse, after the MDT meeting. Relatively good news, which is such a relief. A long way to go, but:

    - no signs of spread to any other organs on the MRI and CT Scans

    - tumour is the most common kind, I think adenocarcinoma.

    - they are confident still of treatment and cure

    - a couple of adjacent lymph nodes look like they might be slightly bigger, so they want to do a PET scan before deciding on chemo/radio or straight to surgery.

All quite encouraging, and they best I've felt for a month. My next worry is about whether they'll be able to remove it without the need for a bag, but I guess I'll try not to focus on that for now. My understanding is that various oncology treatments would likely reduce the size of the tumour (she even said in a very small number of patients it could remove the tumour without surgery), but surely I would need chemo/radio/immuno to reduce the size of the tumour and thereby reduce how much needs removing in surgery and reduce the likelihood of a bag.

I'm so grateful for this news. A long journey still, but the (relatively) best news for me for a while. Thank you all for your love and kindness.

  • Been following your story James ,I'm glad to hear its not as bad as you feared ,onwards and upwards for you ,well done for getting this first part of the waiting over ,Best Wishes ,Jenny .

  • Hi James4000...so pleased you got the call

No sign of spread is great news and the PET scan will give the answers needed for making a plan...

Re the worry of having a stoma bag.. have a couple of friends who were given a temporary stoma which was able to be reversed following their treatment..

On the other hand, my 77 year old neighbour wasn't able to undergo reversal following his treatment 12 years ago... he cycles daily, walks when weather isn't suitable for the bike, travels widely and is such an amazing example of life after B.C so..positive thinking and take good care of yourself xx

  • James40000 so happy for you  very good news  maybe a long journey like you say but at least your on the right side of it and things are looking up  just hoping mine will be good news too  I can understand how relieved you must feel at this time  all the best to you James  x

  • Thank you all for your support today,. and everyone else.

thank you for sharing your friends' experiences with the bags. That sounds encouraging indeed.

and  , I'm hoping and praying for good news and outcomes for you in your upcoming meetings.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

  • James4000 hi James. I’m still waiting for a date for a scan it’s still with in the 2 week path way but I thought I might have heard some thing by now. Think my biopsies are due back on Wednesday but I have no date for a scan  hope things are going ok for you x

  • Hi Tango

Great minds! I was just thinking of you.

Perhaps you could call the cancer nursing team at your hospital (if they have a similar set up to mine?). Mine have been so helpful and able to update me on what's going on and give me numbers to call to check on scans etc.

How are you feeling? The waiting is tough, isn't it? Like others have said.

Thanks for asking about me. I have a PET scan very swiftly scheduled for this Wednesday, then it'll be back to the MDT and they'll put the plan together bases on what they find on the PET. Seems like either some oncology first or straight to surgery.
