Colonoscopy

Hi every one I’m due for a colonoscopy on Tuesday I’m feeling really scared don’t really feel.upto the procedure as I really suffer with stress and anxiety but I know I need to do this  I have been feeling as if I need to poo but some times it’s just reddish pus and feeling very gassy but because of feeling I need to poo I’m always in the bathroom , been having problems for a while now. I thought maybe I just had internal piles but when I went to my gp doctor couldn’t see or feel any thing so did a fit test which came back positive  so I was referred for a colonoscopy  I’m so scared of having cancer  not looking forward to the bowel prep  I think your all a lot braver than me   Xx

  • I had a colonoscopy some years ago and was utterly terrified before it.

GP couldn't see or feel anything with me either but it did turn out to be piles. Nurse said that wasn't unusual, for them not to be noticed.

    Hope you get good news

  • Thank you  I’ will be taking the prep to night and then six in morning  as my appointment is afternoon can’t have any thing to eat now until after the colonoscopy. I’m really scared about tomorrow I’m still hoping it’s just internal piles hope the prep I can cope with  I guess I will be on toilet all night  hope I get good news as my stress levels are so high

  • I must be strange lol as I didn't mind the taste, mine was lemon flavour which I  love anything lemony, my friend didn't like the taste though

Can you add a bit of squash to make it more palatable, I'm sure I was told you could x

  • You really would think there'd be something easier and better ti take ,the first time they gave me  Moviprep  I thought that was bad enough but Plenvu was worse for me and its 2 different mixes ,the first lot I managed to keep down the second flavour I did not but like I said it must have still worked as they did the Colonoscopy ,I suppose I should have informed them that I hadn't had the second lot but I wasn't going to be doing that again lol

  • Hi jenny3109 I’m having my prep to night  it’s plenvu just hope I can take it all I feel so sick at the thought of it  but I can only do what you can.  Had nothing to eat today so that doesn’t help  take second lot at six in the morning  be glad when it’s all over. I have afternoon appointment really scared of it all my nerves are all over the place.  Then you worry after all that what they might find.  Did every thing go ok for you

  • Hi like you say just do what you can ,try at least to have the first lot and see how the second lot goes ,I suspect the first lot will do the trick it did with me because as I say I got half way through the second lot and I felt ill but I had a morning appointment so I had it all on the night before ,,its a weird taste its sort of like drinking salt and sugar at the same time that's how I described it to my hubby , anyway like I said I still went and it was fine and they tell you the result on the day so no waiting ,mine was fine ,I hope you get a good result ,let us know how you get on ,good luck .

  • Just wanted to ask did you have the sedative  I just said I will try gas and air  but I might change my mind  how long did yours take before it was all over   Thank you I will let you know

  • Yes I had sedation but to be fair it didn't feel like I was sedated as I was wide awake and aware of everything that was going on ,it seemed like it only took a very short time maybe 10 mins .

  • Hello Tango

I hope all goes well with your procedure.

I also had sedation. Like Jenny said, for me too I was fully lucid. I do think the sedation helped mostly with the anxiety.

Hoping and praying for good news for you.

When I got my not good news a week ago, it was devastating, but the colonoscopist was immediately talking and reassuring about treatment and cure, and so many posters on here have had similar.

I pray you get good news and all goes well.

  • Hi james4000 so sorry to hear your results was not too good  but as we know there is lots of things they can do now and every thing is curable  I wish you all the best and I can understand how your feeling but you know we are all stronger than we think and you with a loving wife and family can do this

  • Just having the prep you can’t get rid of taste at the back of your throat I drinking water with it  it’s horrid  I guess I will be tasting it all night

  • It really is horrible ,the second lot was worse for me ,I don't know how they expect people to tolerate it ,there should be a much easier method in place especially for people who are elderly and ill .

  • Did any one feel bloated with plenvu I’ve only taken half of it so far and I’m feeling bloated

  • Yes very bloated for quite a while ,its best to try and drink it very slowly ,I tried to rush it and it didn't go down well have a little rest until you feel ok to deal with it .

  • Thank you  I’ve still a lot to go lol I have a pint of water here and that lol don’t fancy other one in morning   I’m dreading needing toilet cos I bleed every time I go so dreading toilet

  • At least you'll get rid of everything that's there ,I was having severe diarrhea for many weeks until the Colonoscopy ,I've never had it since then ,I hope it all goes well for you ,at least you haven't left it and are doing something about it despite the inconvenience .

  • I’ve been passing blood and mucus for two month now. I thought I had internal piles but my doctor said she couldn’t feel any. The bleeding as got a bit worse. All my bloods came back ok  stool sample was positive  I’m really scared of getting bad news tomorrow  I had been reading on line that piles can do this or abscesses  but until I have the colonoscopy it’s all guess work.  Hope you don’t mind me talking to you it’s lovely to be able to talk to someone  thank you

  • Same symptoms as my self, I did the routine bowel screening test a few months ago and it came back all okk

I started my Chemo on Friday x I had a picc line inserted x

Had a chemo session in hospital, then came home with a pump for the weekend too, had that removed yesterday

    I feel so "normal"

People asking how I'm feeling, Ive told them I feel the same as I felt 6 months ago

Don't feel ill at all, if it wasn't for another doctor asking about my bladder and bowels god knows what would have happened x

On TV today it says 44,000 people a year get diagnosed with bowel cancer wow

  • I don't mind at all if I can help someone after being through it I will ,people have helped me when I was asking questions ,just ask away I don't mind at all .

  • I know I saw it on telly  more and more younger ones getting cancer as well  I’m 70 years old  dreading my colonoscopy tomorrow   So glad your feeling well  you seem a strong lady  hope all goes well for you

  • I’ve been feeling so stressed with what’s been going on with me  passing blood when going to the toilet  was then once a week  but over these last few months things just seem to change and got worse blood every time I need toilet now so that’s why I’m a bit scared  as going to the toilet is scary for me so this prep won’t help  I’m scared for tomorrow incase I might have cancer

  • I don't know anybody who wouldn't be scared but its a process thousands have gone through ,its fear of the unknown but at least tomorrow you will know one way or another which is better than just constantly thinking about it ,even if its not the news you want to hear its better than not knowing and leaving things to get worse ,you're almost there and you'll be in good hands ,the hospital staff are so nice and very professional they take great care of you .
