Rectal bleeding

I have been experiencing rectal bleeding for over three years. I have undergone two colonoscopies and two gastroscopies. The first colonoscopy diagnosed me with hemorrhoids, but the second procedure did not reveal any issues. Over the years, my rectal bleeding has worsened, and now the water in the toilet is red when I have bowel movements. This situation frightens me, especially since doctors have been unable to provide a clear diagnosis.

The bleeding typically occurs after I experience heartburn, a feeling of air trapped in my chest until I manage to burp out the gas, and a constant sensation of phlegm in my throat. I can always anticipate the bleeding because, prior to it, I feel lower abdominal pain, followed by stools that contain blood, which also turns the toilet water red.

I am seeking advice on what steps I should take at this point because I am constantly afraid when I see a lot of blood, and I am unsure of what is causing it.

I'm sorry to hear that you've had ongoing health concerns for quite some time now. It's understandable that you're feeling afraid of the bleeding that you've described.

It's reassuring to hear that the investigations you've had up until this point haven't given the doctors any immediate cause for concern but equally frustrating that you've no clear reason or diagnosis for this issue.

Do make an appointment to go back to your GP. Sometimes it can help to write down your symptoms and the things that you've noticed that happen prior to a bleed. You might want to keep a diary between now and the appointment to see if you can help identify a trigger for these issues.

I do hope that your doctor will be able to get to the bottom of this problem and that they can give you some reassurance.

    Best wishes,
