Lump/bump on shin bone. Awaiting x-ray results

Hi.

I am looking for experiences of a lump on shin bone and the outcome.

background. I am 42F. Since the start of the year I have been experiencing on/off bone pain, which I was putting down to possibly being perimenopausal.

the pain peaked a bit in May and I had awful burning shooting pains in my thigh. Around the same time I noticed a little bump on my shin.  I thought about getting it checked out, but I forgot about it and didn’t notice it again.

in the mean time, the bone pain had lessened coincidentally once I started supplements, however I spoke  to Physiotherapist and have been meaning to book myself in (private).

fast forward to this week, I noticed the bump on my shin again. I can only assume it never went away and seems to be bigger than I remember in May. I saw my GP yesterday and was referred for an x-ray, which I had the same day.  The GP did say they would be looking for cancers (soft tissue and bone, although it seems to be on the bone rather than soft tissue). He of course wasn’t saying he thought it was cancer, just that that is what the investigations will be picking up (or not).

I can’t shake the feeling that it is. The lump, the pain and, now, I seem to be losing weight without really trying. I have been actively trying to eat better, but I still eat crisps, drink wine etc.

I have two young daughters and I cry when I think about them going through a diagnosis.

  • Hi NedandDoris,

It's never easy dealing with uncertainty like this, so I hope you get the information you need soon.

It's good to hear that you've had it checked out and that you were seen quickly.

Hopefully you'll get some more replies to your post soon, particularly if others with similar experience see it.

I hope you find the forum useful.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Hi, do you have any update? I have the same issue.

  • Hey. Yes, I have been meaning to update. The x-ray came back fine with no abnormalities. The Dr didn’t really say what could be causing it. I still have it but it is no bigger. I’ve had blood tests to rule out other things such as arthritis which may be why I get the bone pain.

have you been to your GP?

  • Thank you for your reply.

    I really appreciate it.

My pain in my leg started a month ago, and Ive realised that I have more varicose veins on that leg.

The pain never went away and I started checking my leg and realised 2 small lumps on my shin bone, so I went to my GP show said she believes they are varicose veins. She gave me painkillers and anti-inflammatory tablets and said if the pain comes back I have to go back.

The pain is back in my feet when I put weight on it ( can not remember injuring it ) na ive seen another lump on the side of my leg which is only visible when putting pain on my leg.

Searching for pictures it looks like leg muscle hernia.

I am very scared and freaking out here, and going back to my GP tomorrow.

Google is not helping as it says the worst scenario.

The pain in my leg sometimes feels like everywhere sometimes feels like the foot.

  • only visible when putting weight on my leg.

  • It’s so hard not to spiral, so I understand. I was getting pain in my foot, too, especially in the mornings and when walking on it. I was alarmed as the bone pain was quite significant for seemingly no reason. Even just touching the area in my thigh would send shockwaves through me!

I am terrible for googling. Whilst I was waiting for my test results,  had to be so strict with myself and not look and I never found anything good relating to my symptoms.

I’m glad you are dealing with this quickly and it seems like your GP isn’t dismissing you, which is good. Feel free to update if you are up to it.
