Biopsy in jaw area

Hi all,

I wonder has anyone had a biopsy from their jaw and if so how long did biopsy results take?

My MRI took place in the summer and showed 3 lessions in my jaw. I had a biopsy 6 weeks ago and was expecting my results on clinic on Monday.

Today the hospital called me and cancelled the appointment without giving any reason. They said a new appointment will be made and to await a letter with the new date.

My mind is busy reading all sorts of things into this scenario. Has anyone had an appointment cancelled and then recieved an explanation as to why? Should I phone my consultants secretary or just wait for the post to arrive?

All and any thoughts gratefully recieved xx

  • Hi Kaz1805,

As a general rule, you would normally expect to get biopsy results within about 2 weeks as can read in the information we have on our website on the biopsy but this can vary especially at this busy time of year. As it has been six weeks already, I don't think there is any harm in phoning the consultant's secretary just to double check that the biopsy results have come through and if they are able to tell you more already or if you need to wait for the new appointment. You could also enquire as to why your initial appointment was cancelled and they may be able to give you an explanation. I would not however read anything into the fact that the appointment has been cancelled - there may be all sorts of logistical reasons for this which probably have nothing to do with your actual results.

So do get in touch with the consultant's secretary - this will give you more information and clarity so that you can have a bit of peace of mind during this festive period and understand fully what happened and whether your biopsy results have come through.

I am keeping everything crossed for your that these lesions turn out to be nothing of concern. Keep us updated if you get a moment on what you find out!

I will now let other members of our community who may have had a biopsy in the jaw area and are familiar with the diagnosis process come and share their story with you.

    Best wishes,

  • They've cancelled because they probably do not have your results confirmed yet.

I waited for my BB histology results for over 6 weeks (thyroid tumour). I kept calling the consultant and they said, some samples take longer to grow, and then it wasn't a clear case- they had to ask for second opinion...

Good luck... Hopefully all works out for you

  • Thanks for your reply.

This morning I recieved a new appointment for 2 weeks time so I think it may be a similar situation.

    Best wishes.
