Hi,

Please try not to read anything into the consultant's demeanour - I've had several consultants over the years & they all differ - some are chatty & explain everything without prompting, some are very quiet and share very little whilst, in the main, they don't commit themselves because no one, not even a dermatologist, can 100% diagnose skin cancer. That's why they suggest a removal as a biopsy is the only way to know. Of course, having a facial scar is scary but the Plastic Surgeons who deal with facial surgery are very good. Scars will look scary at first but once they've settled down over 6 to 12 months they are hardly visible. 

If you are still worried, contact the dermatology department and ask to speak to one of the skin cancer nurses - they will be happy to explain the procedure & put your mind at rest.

Thank you for your reply. I was quite shocked as I thought the consultant would give me a choice and say is just to be on the safe side or that it’s fine. I really wasn’t expecting to need an operation. Thanks again for your advice x
