Thyroid nodule biopsy FNA experience for anyone about to go through it

I have a nodule almost 4cm on the right of my thyroid found during ultrasound. It was classed as U3/U4 and I was booked for a biopsy of it this week. I've been a little nervous leading up to it, for the procedure as well as the worry about what it might be. So just to share my experience for anyone else looking for info and about to go through it.

I lay on the bed and had my nodule scanned again with ultrasound. The doctor and assistant were nice, calm and chatting to me. I then had the area cleaned with alcohol solution, a sheet put over my chest and tucked into my neck at the top. They asked me to do any swallowing I needed to do first. I understand some people get a local anesthetic but they advised that it was only 3 samples so it'd be a similar about of discomfort so if I was happy to, then go without. The needle they use is small and fine. It was a slifht sharp scratch but less discomfort than giving blood. The only uncomfortable part was a little pushing pressure while they took the sample but it was definitely manageable and I could have continued a conversation if it wasn't where it was and needing to try and stay still.

So, it was fine. I'm in the waiting room now and I feel a little stiff but no pain. I should get results back in two weeks and I pray they're good results,  conclusive and benign. I expect I still may need surgery with a size nodule as I have.
