Abdominal bump. Gp not helpful. I am terrified

A few weeks ago while sitting on the toilet I noticed a raised circle on my abdomen above belly button. It looked like a lump to me and felt slightly raised.

i went into panic mode but thought maybe I was imagining things and my anxiety was running away with me.

i asked my mum to look and she immediately saw it too.

i booked an appointment with the gp. She examined me and said she could feel a pea sized lump but not in the area where this said bulge was. I explained this odd shape is more noticeable when I bend down so I did this and she felt again but nothing.

she went to get the head doctor and she examined me but she could feel nothing.

i was told this odd bulge I could see was normal.

I came home and I was still worrying. So I completed an online consultation with the gp and asked if I could have a ultrasound or ct scan to put my mind at ease.

i was told that because both gps had examined me and couldn’t feel anything then they couldn’t allow me to have a scan.

This odd bump is still noticeable and when I am bending down I can feel the raised area.

when I raised my concerns about ovarian cancer the doctor laughed and said this wouldn’t cause a lump or bulge in my abdomen.

i also have a new rash on my face which I have read can be linked to cancer. and abnormal bleeding but they put this down to my PCOS

i am so scared of cancer but feel the doctors are not taking me seriously. What can I do?

  • Hello Fero27,

You did well to book an appointment to see the GP when you noticed that lump. It must have been a bit surprising for you when the doctor couldn't feel the lump and it's good that she called another doctor to double check. It sounds like both GPs were pretty sure it was nothing to worry about so you can probably feel reassured by this and their opinion that you didn't need a scan but if you are still worried I would perhaps try and speak to yet another doctor just to get a final opinion and complete peace of mind. Our website has information on getting a second opinion which might be useful to you. You could also mention this new rash on your face and the abnormal bleeding when you speak to the doctor.

Try not to worry too much and have faith in the opinion of the medical experts. I hope you manage to speak to another doctor soon and that they will be able to explain things calmly and thoroughly to you so that you get the complete reassurance you need.

    Best wishes,
