Colposcopy - is having pain in my vagina and lower abdomen normal after having this procedure?

I recently had my 2nd colposcopy on tuesday where they took more of my cervix due to finding cancer cells in my 1st one. I did have some bleeding and discharge but the past few days the pains in my vagina and lower abdomen are really bad. I was wondering is this normal? As i suffer from anxiety and bpd and unfortunately its driving me insane.

Thankyou for reading.

  • Hi Blackpoolgirl89 and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to hear about some of the issues you've been contending with since you had your colposcopy.

As mentioned on the NHS website, experiencing some bleeding, discharge and pain after having this procedure is quite common but if the pain doesn't improve after taking some painkillers, or continues to get worse, then it would be advisable to contact your GP or the NHS on 111 for further advice.

We also have a team of cancer nurses you can discuss this with on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

We're thinking of you Blackpoolgirl89 and hope this starts to improve for you soon.

    Kind regards,
