Need some guidance...

I am 15 year old girl who's basically fighting a war with her breasts. Basically, my left breast mainly has been *** with my sleep and concentration for nearly a month now, and the pain is unbearable. I took and still take paracetamol daily to try ease the pain, but nothing. Nothing happens. I also noticed that my left breast is notably much larger than before which freaked me out. I have very irregular periods, lots of groin pain and also, lots and lots of discharge. I basically exposed myself, but, I don't care. I just want to get better and focus. This year I have my GCSEs, and it's already started off very badly. My breasts hurt occasionally, but this time, it's like this pains never going to go away at all. The fact I went to the GP and the hospital, and they told me it was nothing, to ignore it, and to just take 'strong pain killers' is just unbelievable. I was sat there thinking I had breast cancer because the nurses before my actual doctor were basically saying that to my face. The doctors ignored the fact there's pain ON my left breast, and focused on the fact it's also NEAR my left breast and brushed it off as muscle pain. PLEASE! THE MUSCLE PAIN WAS ALWAYS THERE! MY BREAST HURTS! IT'S UNBEARABLE!! What do I do now? Just wait? Or overdose on some hella strong pain-killers like the doc said? Give me some advice ladies.

  • Hello kk_hafsa,

I am sorry you are experiencing this intense breast pain at such a young age and that the paracetamol isn't always helping to alleviate the pain. You are at an age when your body is going through a lot of changes and it's normal to be worried and I hope you get some reassurance soon from the medical experts. It must be hard to be going through these health worries at a time when you are focusing on your GCSEs. You did well to go and see the GP and to go to hospital about this and it's a good sign that they have told you it is nothing to worry about but as you are not reassured and are still worried about this pain on your breast, it would be worth getting a second opinion just so that you get complete peace of mind that it is nothing of concern. There is information on our website on getting a second opinion

I hope that you get reassurance on this soon and that you will hear from others on this forum who have experienced similar breast issues before and that they will come and share their experience with you.

    Best wishes,

  • I had irregular periods and breast pain at 15. It took till my late 30s to find out I had dermoid cysts on my ovaries as the ultrasound imaging wasn't as good back when I was your age but the dermoid cysts are congenital which means they're present at birth though they were much smaller. I was diagnosed with pcos instead which is a misdiagnosis. I'd concentrate on the fact you're irregular rather than the breast pain in itself as you should have your hormone levels tested and an ultrasound on your ovaries if you have been menstruating for a few years already. If you are early in puberty though it's not completely unusual to get breast pain and irregular periods. I think a second opinion as Lucie suggested would be a good idea as you don't feel listened to.
