Should I cancel my breast clinic referral?

I am a 34 year old mum of 3 and am currently breastfeeding my 4 month old son. A few weeks ago I noticed a lump in my left breast and originally put it down to a blocked milk duct or something else linked to breastfeeding. However, after a week there was no change to the lump so booked an appt with my GP. She examined me and said that she didn’t think it was linked to breastfeeding and referred me to the breast clinic at the hospital. I am due there next weekend. BUT I think the lump has gone. It has certainly gone down although I still feel like there is a slight difference in that breast (compared to the right one)…

Shall I still go to my appt? I feel like a right fraud now and like I will be taking up valuable NHS time! What do I do??

  • Hi AbbieD,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

You have done the right thing by getting this lump checked out. It sounds as if this may be related to breastfeeding after all, but I agree with Beepa, that, you are better to attend your appointment to make absolutely sure. We are always advised to check out any change in the breast. You will not be wasting anyone's time. I hope that nothing untoward is found.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
