some advice regarding gallbladder polyps. Has anyone had any experience with them and does anyone know how likely they are to turn cancerous. I am a bit concerned as they only have found one. Going for a scan in 6 months again. I’m 39 female

  • Hi Jude10685,

I found a small paragraph on our website within our page on risks and causes of gallbladder cancer about gallbladder polyps which mentions that "these small growths are not cancer and many adults have them. They develop on the surface lining of the gallbladder but some might develop into cancer over a long period of time. The larger the polyp, the greater that risk is that it will become cancerous. You might have an operation to remove your gallbladder if you have a polyp that is larger than 1 centimetre (10mm)" Try not to be too concerned as now the polyp has been detected they will be able to monitor it, see if it grows and it's good that you will be going for a scan in 6 months time to check everything. You are in the best possible hands and it's good that they will be keeping an eye on it. If you wanted to talk to one of our cancer nurses about your worries regarding your polyp, feel free to give them a call on this free number 0808 800 4040 - their helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm and they will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Other members of our community may have had gallbladder polyps before and I hope that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you.

    Best wishes,
