Under investigation - I’m convinced it’s nothing, but can’t help but be slightly concerned as doctor says I might have lymphoma.

Hey,

So I feel like I almost shouldn’t be posting here, but I figured having somewhere to vent my concerns may help.
Firstly, I’m so sorry for everyone here because you have/possibly have cancer and you are battling it - you are so strong.

My story:

I found a lump in my neck around the end of October, got checked at the doctors in the 1st November and she was concerned as she can’t move it or get under it. I have been suffering with quite severe night sweats, drenching so I have to get up shower and change the sheets.
I left it a few weeks but it is still there and slightly bigger so I went back, and the doctor sent me for blood tests. All came back ok, apart from thyroids which I have struggled with for years!
I have been referred to hospital for an urgent ultrasound on my neck, and as much as I’m trying not to worry - it’s difficult!
I just feel writing down how I’m feeling might help me slightly.

  • Hello hlj0915,

Don't feel bad about posting here - this is what the forum is for, a safe and anonymous space where you can vent your concerns as much as you want. You did well to get this lump checked at the doctor's shortly after you discovered it and to go back when you noticed it had got bigger and it is important that you also mention those night sweats. It's good that they are being thorough in their investigations and that you have been referred to hospital for an ultrasound on your neck. Do you have a date already for the ultrasound? I hope that you won't have to wait too long. It's difficult not to worry and I am keeping everything crossed for you that it's nothing of concern and you get some reassurance very soon. Waiting for results and going through such investigations can be nerve-racking and I thought I would share with you these helpful tips to help you cope while waiting for news. Try if you can not to look anything up online as this will never give you any comfort or reassurance but it will only make you worry even more, often unnecessarily.

I will now let other members of our community who have experienced similar symptoms come and say hello and share their stories with you.

    Best wishes,

  • Hey,

Thank you for getting back to me and making me feel okay about posting here!
I don’t have a date - so my doctors have continued to make a referral then cancel it as they want me to go to a different hospital, then sent an urgent one to the local hospital to me but they have said they’re that snowed under it’ll be the end of Jan before I get seen - even with a cancellation possible!
I appreciate the NHS is busy, with people who need seeing more urgently than me, but I’m getting concerned.
I decided to go private, to get seen faster and leave my NHS appointment to someone who can’t go private, but my referral is addressed to another health care place so it won’t be accepted - I rang the doctors and asked them to send me a new one just with the name of the private hospital on or to myself but they won’t and have said I have to wait until next Friday to speak to a doctor, before they will redo the referral.
I feel frustrated now, and I hate that I can’t even pay privately and get that sorted soon.
It’s looking like it will be a Christmas of worry, I don’t know what to do for the best as I don’t want to be a pain to the doctors!
Any advice or help hugely appreciated.
    Thank you!

  • Update: Managed to get a private referral letter today so going to book my private scan shortly!

  • Hi Jolamine,

    I hope you are well!

Thank you for getting back to me, I will definitely reply with how everything goes as soon as I’ve had my appointment.
I’m sure it’ll be nothing concerning, but better to get it all checked out I think!
