Oesophagus cancer worries

Hi I'm a newbie to all this discussion.

I'm just a bit concerned about my friend of 32 years who's just seen his gp and said his symptoms which are, chronic heartburn, can't swallow food properly and can only take small sips of water, has urgently requested an appointment for him to have an endoscopy saying his symptoms need further investigation and wants to rule out the signs of oesophagus cancer.

Thank you so much for looking and i look forward to hearing from you on the discussion.

  • Hello Luna28122023

I'm sorry to hear that your friend has been having some health problems recently. He's done exactly the right thing in seeing his GP and it's good to know that the Dr has referred him for further investigations.

It's understandable that you may be feeling anxious about things. Please avoid trying to search the internet for answers and information. We know that for many people this period of waiting and uncertainty can be difficult and that they turn to the internet in the hope of finding reassurance. What happens most often is that people don't find answers but are left feeling even more worried. If you'd like to talk things through with one of our nurses you can call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I know they will be happy to offer any advice and information they can.

Hopefully, your friend won't have to wait too long for his appointment and the team will be able to give him some answers and reassurance when he sees them.

Do keep in touch and let us know how he gets on.

    Best wishes,
