Called back for Ultrasound on right breast after MRI

Hi,

Hope ok to post. I am 35 years old and have yearly MRI scans due to high risk / family history.

My most recent mri was 28th October and yesterday I received a letter dated 6th November inviting me back for an ultrasound next Monday 18th. Examination: US Breast rt.

Obviously I'm a little anxious and concerned. Have been googling lots. I know it can be a precaution because I am high risk and could be many things like an unclear image or cyst. I just can't help but think the worst and have crippling anxiety as have a son aged 4. Head racing with worse case scenarios, especially as gave seen my mum go through twice.

Any support and advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

  • Hello RawsonE

I'm sorry to hear that your most recent MRI has resulted in you being recalled to the hospital for an ultrasound. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious about what this may mean but you're absolutely right when you say that this could simply be due to an unclear image or a cyst.

We know that this period of waiting for further tests and answers can be really difficult and it's natural that you've thought about all scenarios. The unknown can be a scary prospect to face.

Hopefully, you will have support from your family and friends around you. We know that many people have found it helpful to talk things through with someone. If you'd like to chat with one of our nurses you can call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. I know they will be happy to listen and offer any advice, information and support they can.

Do let us know how you get on next week. Hopefully, the team will be able to give you some reassurance on Monday.

    Best wishes,
