“Urgent” biopsy cancelled and then put back

I orignally contacted the doctor about excessive bleeding post menopause on 24 September. I was referred for a scan, which was cancelled due to staff sickness and rebooked a week later. Following the results of the scans, on 18 October I  was referred for an urgent two week appointment with suspected ovarian cancer. Eventually they contacted me and gave me a date for an appointment of 4 November. Then they cancelled that and said the consultant needed me to bypass the consultation and go immediately to biopsy on 8 November.
Two hours before the appointment it was cancelled.

I have now been contacted me to say my appointment is 13 December.

This will be 12 weeks since i rang the doctor with symptoms to even get the biopsy. And that’s 8 weeks after being told I would be seen urgently within 2 weeks.

i am worried sick, my work and wider health is suffering- my glands are up and I have an intense sore throat and headache.

And my symptoms have gotten worse- my stomach hurts constantly and I have odd deeper pains around my middle.

My legs ache, I have very frequent burning urination and I am so fatigued I can barely move some days.

I also have extremely low iron- down to 11.

And my grandma died from this illness.

What can I do? Is there anything I can do?

Im so  worried about the acceleration of any potential illness during this time.

I feel so helpless. Any advice would be great.

  • Tell them you're available for cancellations and talk to the consultant's secretary. Tell them the dates etc. It can be exhausting but push. Let them know you're not happy. You could contact PALS too but they might take time. Sorry you are going through this.

  • Thanks so much for the response and advice. I’ll do as you suggest. Thank you.

  • So sorry you experiencing such an ordeal.  Personally I would call the secretary and raise concerns about the delay and that fact that ypu feel the communication is poor because canceling at such short notice is poor.

My dad had a different issue couple of years ago but appointments were constantly cancelled and he had a confirmed diagnosis.  I was so persistent with the medics and they got him in for his surgery with in a week.  I agreed for any cancellation too.  Obviously every speciality is different but don't lose hope and keep strong.

  • Thanks very much. It’s so worth knowing that I need to keep chasing. So frustrating that it’s needed but I will do it. Great that your persistence paid off.
