inverted nipple

Hello, I recently found a lump in my breast and am going for a check up on Thursday but I had been looking at symptoms and saw that an inverted nipple is one. I have had one inverted nipple for about 5 years and never even thought about it now I am making myself sick with worry. Does anyone have any advice? Thank you xx

  • Hi Ljon,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear about your symptoms. You have done the right thing by getting these checked out. This is always a worrying time, one when our overactive imaginations, tend to play havoc with our minds. I am glad to see that your clinic appointment is due soon. Of all the people who attend the breast clinic, only 20% will get a cancer diagnosis. Not all symptoms are due to cancer. Many turn out to be due to benign cysts, fibroadenoma, or naturally lumpy breasts. Do not consult "Dr Google", while you're waiting. Much of the advice there is poorly researched, out of date and aimed at the more spectacular cases. This will only cause you further worry and will serve no useful purpose.

One of the tests they might do on Thursday is a biopsy. If they do this, you may have to wait about a further 2 weeks, before you get the results of this. This is the test that really determines whether or not there is any cancer in the tissues. Try to keep busy, as this will help to take your mind off the wait. I sincerely hope that all turns out well for you.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi Jolamine,

Thank you so much for responding. Your response has been very comforting!! I agree about 'Dr Google' - it does no good for the mind whatsoever. I went for my check ups today and turns out that the lump is a cyst in my lymph nodes and that this is actually really common, and that an inverted nipple that comes out is also common and wasn't a sign of anything. Glad I got it checked out regardless and I will continue to do my check regularly from now on (and will not consult google!!)

Thank you again for your kind message xx

I'm so happy it wasn't cancer. Yes, keep alert but great news!

    HI Ljon,

Thank you for getting back to us. I am so delighted to hear that you are one of the lucky ones. Cysts are indeed common, but it's still worth checking your breasts regularly. It's definitely never worth checking in with "Dr Google", before you know what you're dealing with. All this serves to do, is is to hike our anxiety several notches higher, than it would be otherwise.

I'm sure that you feel mightily relieved tonight and I hope that you manage to celebrate your good fortune over the weekend.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
