Lymph node on neck randomly got bigger after 4 years

Hi I found a small lump about half an cm long about 3/4 years ago on my neck close to where an Adam’s apple/thyroid would be. The doctor sent me for an ultrasound and they said it was a lymph node and was easy felt because I’m very slim. It’s never went away and fluctuates in size very slightly from morning to night but had never got a bigger than the original size. However this evening I have randomly felt it and it’s bigger I would say about 1cm. I feel so so worried. Could this still be normal? I’m going to make an appointment to see the gp on Monday but any reassurance from anyone who had this and ended up normal? I am worried sick!

  • Hi dan2603,

You did well to get this small lump on your neck looked at 4 years ago and it's good that the doctor sent you for an ultrasound and that they thought it was just a lymph node. As you noticed some changes this morning, I guess it would not do any harm to go back to your doctor to have it re-evaluated after 4 years. Do tell them that you had an ultrasound and that it seems to have suddenly got bigger and also do mention those fluctuations in size you described.

Try not to worry too much though as it may be nothing of concern but for peace of mind, you are right to make an appointment to see the GP on Monday.

I hope that you will hear from others on here who have had something like this and that it turned out to be nothing to worry about.

Everything crossed for you - I hope that your appointment goes well.

    Best wishes,
