I wanted to share my story as it develops, perhaps it helps someone.
I have had hemeroids since I can remember, therefore bloody stool is not something that generally bothers me.
Last year March I had some stool samples tested for blood and cancer, and it was all negative. In June this year, something felt different, I had blood in my stool and seemed to be "within" and not "on top of". GP said its probably hemeroids and left it there.
I just felt something was off, and I went to our GP on 1st of October. Blood tests were done (all came back fine) and had a test done for Celiac's disease, also negative. After my appointment on the 1st, I was not satisfied and I booked an appointment with private GP. Immediate referred to a specialist.
I had a colonoscopy yesterday (30/10/2024) - 2 polyps were removed, and they found a bleeding polyp/tumour measuring 3cm, 10cm from rectum.
Other than the stool issues, I have zero other symptoms. No tiredness, no weight loss, nothing.
The specialist said he is very "suspicious" of the bleeding polyp/tumour, and noted colorectal cancer on th CT/MRI referral, both of which happened on the same day.
I'm pleased the tests were quick and that something was found to explain the symptoms, but, I don't want it to be what I fear it is.
This morning I made sure my life insurance was in order and that everything is accessible to my wife. We have 2 small daughters, and my biggest concern is that they will be okay.
Perhaps I'm overreacting, but I want to remain pragmatic.
I'm not feeling anxious or scared, which I find strange.
I don't really have any questions, but I did want to share my story.
