Breast Cancer

Hello All, my first post. Just don’t know which way to turn at the moment. Like so many of you, I’m worried sick. I’ve had pain in my left breast for the past month or so. I’m post menopausal, 64 years old. I was doing a breast check and raised my arms as advised when you do a breast check and noticed a slightly indented line running right down my outer left breast and at the bottom, almost under my breast, a slight dent. I Googled as we do, and saw that indents can be a sign of inflammatory breast cancer. I’m seeing my GP on Tuesday and hoping I’ll get a referral to the breast clinic but know I’m going to be worried sick now for the next few weeks until I’m seen. That’s even if I’m referred. I’m thinking of paying privately for an ultrasound. Can’t really afford it but I’m hoping I’ll get some peace of mind. Has anyone had similar? It’s cruel having to wait so long for tests. If there was only a quicker way without having to pay through the roof for private tests and treatment.

Thanks in advance to anyone who replies and I wish everyone on here all the very best.

  • I'm sorry to hear about your symptoms D and for the worry they are causing.

I'm not sure what time you're seeing your GP today but I wanted to wish you good luck and let you know we'll be thinking of you.

I hope your GP is able to put your mind at ease and give you the referral you're seeking, but if you have any questions playing on your mind after your appointment, you're very welcome to give one of our cancer nurses a call on 0808 800 4040. Their helpline is open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they will do all that they can to help.

Hopefully some of our members who have been in a similar situation will be along soon to offer you their support and advice as well.

    Kind regards,

  • Thanks for your reply Steph. Being referred to breast clinic as non urgent which in one way is reassuring but in another I will not stop with the anxiety until I am seen. How people cope I just don’t know. The strength some people have is phenomenal.

Im wishing everyone on this forum the very best of luck.
