Waiting for appointment

My referred me for suspected pancreatic cancer on 14/10. The referral was reviewed and declined because I hadn’t had blood tests. These were done and sent on 16/10 and I’ve been told the referral has been accepted.

However I’ve now been told by the surgery that the wait time to hear anything is 2-4 weeks. I thought there was a 2 week “pathway”?

Does anyone have any guidance on anything I can do to push it forward or do I just have to wait?

Thanks

  • I’ve had a similar issue with my referral. My appt has now been booked but it’s over four weeks from the referral.

They apologised but explained they simply don’t have anything sooner as there is a high volume of referrals. I wish mine was sooner especially as an ultrasound I have had shows cause for concern but at least I’m in the system. I was also told that cancellations are like hens teeth and that going private wouldn’t be any quicker for me.
Hope you’re not kept waiting too long.

Thank you Airmail. I will keep pushing.

I enquired about private and got a similar answer.

Best of luck on your journey.

    How’s it going?

My appointment for a likely hysteroscopy and biopsy is finally tomorrow.

I managed to find the email address for the gastro department and emailed them myself on the 2 week mark. The following day I was given a CT scan 4 days later. I then had to wait 2 weeks to see a doctor, which happened Friday just gone.

The good news for me is that there were no tumours seen. Having said that I’m still having symptoms so they’re doing more in depth blood tests and booking me for an ultrasound which is 2-4 weeks. Depending on what that shows and the bloods I may need MRI or endoscopy, so not out of the woods yet.

Hopefully everything goes well for you.

That’s good that you were able to get in earlier. Well done. Sorry you still haven’t answers yet though. Hopefully it won’t be too much longer.

My TVUS last month showed abnormalities so told to prep for a hysteroscopy tomorrow.

I got back from a week long break earlier today - was quite a good distraction - but the anxiety has hit like a tsunami now. Oh well only around 13 hours left for me to go to find out what’s next.

Had my long awaited referral today.
Good news - it’s not obviously cancer.
Bad news - there’s still a suspicion of malignancy.
Now another 2-4 week wait for my biopsy results.
Even if not cancer I’ve been told that I need another procedure and then 6 monthly monitoring biopsies going forward and if it is cancer then surgery and maybe chemo etc after that, so looks like this is going to be a long haul either way.
