Telederm results

Good morning ,

I sent pictures in of a mole on my nose to my gp who said to have some telederm pictures completed , I had them taken last week and got a notification on my NHS app to say they had been sent off Monday . I had a phone call this morning asking if I could go in at 9am tomorrow , two days after my picture was sent . Does this seem super quick ? I have recently relocated and I know derm was struggling with appointments so I know it could just be they have space here . Anyway I'm rambling , does it sound like it could be something more serious ? Surly they wouldn't want see me if all was looking clear and okay ?

I don't have health anxiety or anything I'm just curious whilst I wait ?

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Ps I have had atypical cells on a previous mole removal and my mum was diagnosed with early skin cancer yesterday .

  • Hi Sarahlou,

Oh my, you & your mum are going through the hospital mill at the moment. I think that the quick appointment is because they probably had a last minute cancellation &, looking at the list, they thought it better to slip you in there if you were available. Or sometimes they rearrange their clinics & add another clinic on if they have a lot of patients to see.

Telederm is great but it only weeds out the most obvious 'innocent' looking moles that GP's aren't sure about. Those that don't look obviously benign need checking again with the dermascope by a dermatologist. They will then decide if they are happy it's OK or if it needs removing for biopsy because they are unsure. If you've already had a mole with atypical cells removed, they will look at your history and decide to err on the side of caution, so don't be surprised if they suggest this mole also needs removing. It's comforting to know that they are acting speedily and you're not having to wait for an appointment.

Good luck tomorrow & please let us know how you get on,

Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient since 2009)

  • Thank you , I will do ️

  • Hi ,

Getting booked in for a biopsy , the telederm shows it looks like a bcc but sending biopsy off as it could come back as a benign intradermal nevi. So we will now for sure in a few months , thanks for your reply .

  • Thank you for updating us Sarahlou. It's good that it's being removed & that it's something easily treatable. Take care x
