Hello Ladbros, I was in the same position last year when I was 59. Your gp may want to take a repeat psa blood test, and discuss what might happen next, which would probably be a referral to a consultant urologist as there are treatment pathways to be followed.
PSA went up to 6.1 from 4.9 ... have an MRI on 23/12 and an appointment, to discuss results on 30/12
Absolutely petrified, thinking that everyone ache in back, hip and. shoulders means I have prostate cancer, that's spread !!
Hello again Ladbros, it is good that you now have some dates/appointments set up. I had a first mri scan, then biopsies and then a second scan which was the one to see if it had spread, but yours might be different, so do ask the staff about the scan when you have it - they will be used to being asked questions, but won’t usually be able to give you the scan results, as these will go to a doctor to review.
It is difficult not to worry, to be honest I was the same…I tried to not let it become all that I thought about in the day, and tried to keep myself occupied and as well as I could.
Have you looked at the prostate cancer uk website - it’s got lots of very helpful information [that certainly helped me], and contact details of support that they offer [phoneline, email etc]? Well worth a look. Hope this helps….
Hi,
In 2012 I had a PSA of 18 and it turned out to be a waterworks infection. After antibiotics, it retreated to under 2.5. Hope by now you know more. fast forward to today, and I now have prostate cancer, but it has been caught early and can be cured. Be happy you are on the pathway, with prostate cancer the early bird can often be cured.
So I saw the consultant and he has no concerns as my prostate shows no change to my last MRI in 2019, other than its bigger .. gone from 30g to 55g ... he has however offered a Prostate Biopsy to put my mind at rest

Glad to hear about things are going. Hope the biopsy goes okay…there is lots of helpful info on-line about what it involves.
So the consultant just called ... I have a small amount of cancer which they're not worried about but will monitor with another PSA in six months and an maybe another MRI in 12 .. I don't know whether to be pleased or not really !!
Looks like they are doing the watch and wait process for you…try not to let things take over and it becomes all you think about…
