Waiting and scared

Hi, I’ve had a dry crusty spot on the top of my ear for a while. Lately it has changed to a painful lump and I finally decided it was time to see the GP. I googled and seems it may be squamous cell carcinoma; I wasn’t too worried because search also suggests that it is highly treatable when treated early. The GP gave me an URGENT referral (that’s how it appears in texts and emails). So now I am afraid that I have put it off too long and maybe more dangerous than I thought. I see the dermatologist in one week. In the meantime I don’t want to say anything to anyone until I know more, but I am scared and currently alone my fear. Can someone virtually hold my hand until I know what I am dealing with?

  • Don’t worry too much about ‘ urgent’ GPs often do this simply because it is unknown and the more quickly you are seen the better. Most of these things turn out to be harmless but I agree that waiting is very stressful. This forum is great because we all understand what you are going through. Keep in touch and hopefully you will be relieved to find out that it’s nothing serious.

    Hugs
