Do you get told results after the Abdomen Ultrasound

Hello Everyone

I've been sent for a abdomen ultrasound in 2 weeks and I'm really nervous.  My bloods were in normal range but because I still have a constant ache been referred for a scan.

I wanted to know will the person completing the ultrasound tell me the results of what they can see after the test good or bad? or will I need to wait until the gp report?

I presume if anything sinister is found I would get called within 24 hours is that right?

I'm getting myself in a right state! I don't have any other symptoms except this discomfort under my right rib when I sit down.  I'm trying to hold on to the fact the gp couldn't feel anything in terms of lumps on physical examination.

Appreciate any support or advice.

  • Hi

It depends on who is doing the scan, sometimes they will reassure you if they cannot see anything of any concern.  When I had one done, I asked her if she had found anything that would explain a high liver reading, she told me that she has found "a small something" and she would send her report through to the gp.  She told me that if I didnt hear from them within a week to chase the doctors.  So I am afraid its unlikely that you will hear within 24 hours.  I had a call from my doctor 2 working days later (mind you mine was just before a bank holiday).

    Good luck with your scan.

  • Hi there

I know how worrying it can be when you have a referal I had an ultrasound scan in March. The lovely lady doing the scan  told me she didn’t see anything sinister but wouldn’t tell me the result of the scan. I had the scan on a Saturday and I found the result on the NHS App on the Monday

    Hope this helps

good luck and best wishes x
