Hello , I’m looking for some advice if possible. A relative of mine had a CT scan done and now has been told she needs a blood test and has been referred to Oncology. The oncology appointment isn’t until another week and a half , which I’m guessing is already bad news due to it being Oncology and that can only mean one thing , in my mind is it normal to wait a few weeks to be given bad news or could she of been seen asap after her initial CT scan ? Any advice I would appreciate it if possible, thank you

    You don't generally get referred to oncology without a diagnosis so I'm just wondering what triggered the CT scan and who ordered it? I'd be pushing for information because it's not a fair way to be handled. The referring clinician should have explained why she's being referred and what the concerns are.

    Communication between appointments and tests is definitely the worst part of the NHS in my experience.

    Hello , originally she was sent for a CT scan as she was suffering from IBS too so they wanted to check , that was ordered by the GP , that was 2 weeks ago this week , and was contacted today to say that next week she would need to have bloods and then an appointment after that , I’m not sure I used to think that if you knew it was bad then would they really make you wait even longer but nowadays who knows , thanks for you advice

    It's quick as the NHS goes. I think it's not a good way of doing things to refer someone to oncology without giving them the reason. I hope she can get some info from the GP as I can imagine how agonising not knowing is in this circumstance.

    Yes hopefully, all we can do is pray for good news or at least treatable, thanks for your advice
