My smear test came back HPV positive and low grade cells

Hello,

I had my first smear test last year at 25 and it came back positive for HPV and low grade cells. I went for a colposcopy a few months later and there was nothing they could see. I was discharged but informed i would have to come back again in 2 years time for a smear test.


i then had to go for another colposcopy within a years time due to bleeding i was experiencing, all though my GP had mentioned that HPV does not cause symptoms, she just wanted to be sure nothing new had occurred.  

i went for another colposcopy in September, they could not see any abnormal cells during the colposcopy. However, they still took a biopsy which found again low grade cells.

i am worried now that my body is struggling to fight off the virus and so worried for my second smear test next year. I have such anxiety around this and don’t know who to talk to.

    I hope you can take some strength, and comfort, from knowing that a lot of our members have been in a similar position, so you are not alone KNM, and I'm sure it won't be long until some of our members stop by to share their experiences and advice.

    I know you said you weren't sure who to talk to about this, so I'm going to give you our nurses telephone number. They are available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on 0808 800 4040. They will do all they can to support you and address any other questions or concerns you have about your biopsy results and situation at this moment in time.

    I hope some of these tips the NHS have on managing anxiety will help to ease your mind as well.

    Hi I was in the same position as you are in and had yearly smears for long time to keep a check on things. It's hard not to be anxious and we are all different I just wanted you to know things were fine. I think having the smears is a way to give re assurance that if things do change they can act on it quickly to keep you safe. I tried to look at it that way but understand it's not everyone's way of thinking. I hope you can find a way of coping I am here if you need a chat from someone who has been through the same experience.
