Abnormal ultrasound and urgent 2 week wait gynae referral

Hi, I had a post menopausal bleed last month and was examined by my GP. I wasn’t referred in 2WW and had my TV USS scan yesterday. The sonography immediately said things weren’t right and when I’d probably be referred to gynae. At 2pm same day my GP called and said she was referring me under 2WW. No doubt I’ll be having a hysteroscopy and I’m really dreading it. My colleague had one and passed out with the pain. Even the sonographer said he’d never heard anything good about them and if they sedate you for a colonoscopy then why not this? Anyway my endometrium had thickened from 2mm 2 years ago to 6mm, showed myometrium patchy and coarse, individual fibroids difficult to delineate, and may relate to seedling fibroids or a degree of adenomyosis changes. Endometrium in distinct but appears regular and thickened. I’m stressing out about this. I had Ca12 bloods done and they’re normal. I work in the NHS so have a degree of medical knowledge but I’m so anxious. Has anyone got any words of advice for me? Thanks x

  • Hi all I can comment on is the Hysteroscopy itself and I have to be truthful and say it is painful but then you'll get others saying it was ok ,the reason they say you can't be sedated is because they might have to ask you to move position during the procedure .

  • Yeah, I had hysteroscopy and it wasn't so bad for me but I also had an absolutely excruciating time getting a coil fitted. I also had an abnormal ultrasound after irregular bleeding--it turned out not to be cancer once they investigated the 10 cm dermoid cyst I did have. My ca125 levels were high though I had no thickening. It was the ovaries they worried more about.

Mum had endometrial cancer a couple of years ago and they operated without chemo or anything following up. They think they got it all.

I hope you get answers quickly and good care. I know how horrible the wait is and hospital visits are not fun.
