Raised CA125

Hi everyone,

I'm completely new to this page. I'm really worried because I went to my doctor with frequent need to pee. They said it was probably peri menopausal urine urgency but also did a CA125 blood test (tumor marker) and the result came back as 43 (top end of normal is 35). Obviously I've been googling it like crazy and some studies out there seems to say that up to 60 can be normal depending on the stage of your menstrual cycle. Anyway I spoke to the GP again to discuss and he basically was the most  un-reassuring, brusque doctor I have ever spoken to. I asked whether he knew of any other conditions which can cause elevated CA125 and he basically didn't (although from my own googling I can see there are actually several!). He has referred me for an urgent scan and now I'm absolutely bricking it that I have ovarian cancer :-(  I was wondering whether anyone else has had an experience of raised CA 125 which was benign and what was causing it?

  • Me, I had dermoid cysts which made my CA 125 levels high then after they were removed  I had some heavy periods which elevated it even higher. Extensive testing showed no ovarian or uterine masses after.

Endometriosis or loads of things can raise it and advanced ovarian cancer can have really high CA 125 levels like in the hundreds so try and not worry.
