fast track referral for suspected head and neck cancer got first appointment what to expect

so i went to the doctors about my fast heart rate,and when she was doing her checks she found a lump on the left side of my neck... i still cannot feel or see this lump but she was very concerned and ive got my first appointment next thursday but got a ultrasound the day after? is this normal also what can i expect ?? im so nervous and my anxiety is really high thank you

    As you say, the waiting bit is hard when you don't really know what it defo is. The ultrasound I had ten days ago showed it was about 5cm which is also stated on the referral form, so is a large one. Noticed it about 7 weeks ago and initially I went to doctors and was told it may be strep throat as had white patches in mouth, but after a swab..came back fine, as did my bloods. 

    Do have a mild sore throat that is just that...no main cough as such. Lump is firm and not painful at all. Don't want to think negatively, but also a realist and think it probably is a cancer. 

    Hopefully will hear back asap...will keep you posted if ok.?

    Hi, 

    thanks, hope you hear from the hospital soon.  I had a lump about the same size as yours.  I got my diagnosis in October, then everything went so fast.  I had a PET-CT Scan followed by an operation to remove my tonsils in November.  Then underwent six weeks of radiotherapy and five weeks chemotherapy.  It was tough but I’m now 12 weeks post treatment and due for a scan in two weeks to see how effective the treatment was.  It’s been a rollercoaster ride but the hospital, doctors, and NHS have been amazing.  being on these forums was a great help too .  I have spoken to others with the same types of cancer who have been successfully treated.  I really hope that all goes well with your results, let me know how you get on.  If you want to chat just drop me a line here.

    Sooo..I finally got my appointment. They rung me this afternoon and asked if I can go in tomoro at 1010. Will see what they say and what the plan is. Pleased I now have appointment but anxious about the results. 

    Thankyou for sharing what you have gone through. Sounds like you had a rough ride but fingers crossed for you. Please do let me know your results if you don't mind..would love to know how you are ️

    It is good to know that the support you have been given has been fantastic!
